  • 15 Shots Killed Shelby Allen is a tragic story (shared in Good Housekeeping) of a young girl who died after binge drinking at a friend's house while the PARENTS WERE HOME.

  • Parent portal of AlcoholEDU for High School Parents is a new online program to prevent underage drinking. AlcoholEDU for High School Parents is the companion piece to AlcoholEDU for High School, an online three-session underage drinking prevention curriculum currently taken by county 9th graders during their Health class. The parent portal of AlcoholEDU for High School Parents takes 15-20 minutes to complete and includes:
              The latest research on underage drinking
              Tips and tools for talking to teens about alcohol
              Strategies for setting rules and monitoring teens
              Expert advice and links to resources

  • A facebook page has been set up, entitled Brian Remembered, to encourage people to stop drinking and driving.  

  • In 2007, the Surgeon General issued a Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking because of the risks involved.

  • The Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth "monitors the marketing practices of the alcohol industry to focus attention and action on industry practices that jeopardize the health and safety of America's youth."

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer informative fact sheets about underage drinking.

  • According to a study supported by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, an online alchohol prevention course can help reduce harmful college drinking.

  • The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism created The Cool Spot as "the young teen's place for info on alcohol and resisting peer pressure."

  • Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) offers many resources including statistics, strategies, and advice about underage drinking.

  • MADD recently developed a handbook entitled, The Power of Parents, It's Your Influence, to help parents start the conversation with their children about the dangers of alcohol.  

  • QAC SAFe (Supports Alcohol Free) Youth strives to lower the current beer, wine, liquor, and binge drinking rates of high school students.

  • Social Hosting refers to when parents allow teens to drink in their homes and can have dangerous consequences.

  • Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) are "helping students make positive decisions about challenges in their everyday lives".

  • Parade Magazine recently shared an article entitled, "The Underage Drinking Epidemic," which describes the frightening new level and manner of teen alcohol consumption.
